Create a Shop Direct Listing With Variations
Learn how to group related Shop Direct products, such as different colors or sizes, into a variation family.
This tutorial explains how to create a variation family relationship for Shop Direct listings so that related products, such as a shirt available in multiple colors or sizes, are grouped together on Amazon. Grouping variations makes the full range of product options easier for customers to discover.
You create Shop Direct variation listings through the Google product data feed by including a shared item_group_id and a supported variation attribute across all listings in the family.
To create a listing without variations, refer to Create a Shop Direct Listing Without Variations.
Shop Direct is available in the US store (ATVPDKIKX0DER) only. For an overview of how Shop Direct works, refer to What is Shop Direct?
Prerequisites
To complete this tutorial, you need:
- A public or private application that's been approved for the Shop Direct role.
- A Shop Direct merchant who has signed up for Shop Direct in the Shop Direct merchant workspace.
- (Solution providers only) Authorization from the Shop Direct merchant to manage their Shop Direct listings. For details, refer to Get Authorization to Manage a Shop Direct Merchant's Shop Direct Listings.
- Products whose variation attributes are limited to the accepted variant-identifying properties in the Google product feed schema:
color,size,material,pattern,age_group, orgender.
Step 1: Verify that your variation attributes are supported
Confirm that the variation attribute that you want to use (color, size, material, pattern, age_group, or gender) falls under the accepted variant-identifying properties in the Google product feed schema.
NoteIf the variation attribute that you want to use is not in the accepted list, submit the product as a standalone listing instead of a variation. For details, refer to Create a Shop Direct Listing Without Variations.
Step 2: Add the item_group_id and variation attribute to your feed data
In your feed document, set the following attributes for each listing in the variation family:
item_group_id: Use the same value across all listings in the same variation family.- Variation attribute (
color,size,material,pattern,age_group, orgender): Specify the individual value for each listing.
NoteShop Direct supports the minimum set of attributes that are required to create an accurate Shop Direct listing. If you include any optional attributes in supported attribute groups or unsupported attribute groups, Shop Direct doesn't input or store these attributes even if the attributes are valid under the Google product feed schema. Inclusion of an attribute in your feed does not guarantee that the attribute will be processed or displayed. Supported attributes can change over time.
Step 3: Submit the feed
Submit the Google product data feed that contains the variation data by using the createFeed process described in Create a Shop Direct Listing Without Variations. Use feedType: GOOGLE_PRODUCT_DATA_FEED and marketplaceIds: ["ATVPDKIKX0DER"].
After submission, review the processing report for variation-related errors. If you receive Error 10134 ("The product data that you submitted has the same variation attribute as another SKU in the family"), check whether the variation attribute falls under the accepted variant-identifying properties in the Google product feed schema. If the variation attribute is not in the accepted list, submit the product as a standalone listing.
NoteVariation-related warnings don't prevent your products from going live, but resolving the issues helps ensure that your product variations are grouped correctly.
Remove a variation family relationship
To remove a variation family relationship, resubmit the product data for the affected listings without the item_group_id field. Removing the field breaks the variation family relationship, and the products are treated as standalone listings.
