Dismiss an Action Item

Learn how to dismiss an Action Item that a selling partner does not want to act on.

Learn how to dismiss an Action Item on behalf of a selling partner who decides not to act on it. Dismissal marks the item DISMISSED; it does not delete it.

Prerequisites

To complete this tutorial, you need:

  • Authorization from the selling partner for whom you are making calls. Refer to Authorizing Selling Partner API applications for more information.
  • The Selling Partner Insights role assigned to your developer profile and selected in the App registration page for your application.
  • An Action Item whose status array contains DISMISSABLE, retrieved from listActionItems or getActionItem. Offer dismissal in your application only when this condition is met.

Step 1. Choose a dismissal reason

Decide which reason best describes why the selling partner is dismissing the item:

  • NOT_INTERESTED: the seller does not want to pursue it.
  • NOT_APPLICABLE: the recommendation does not apply.

Step 2. Dismiss the Action Item

Call the dismissActionItem operation with the chosen reason. The request body is required:

POST /actionItems/2026-06-01/items/{actionItemId}/dismissals
Content-Type: application/json

{
  "reason": {
    "reasonTypes": ["NOT_INTERESTED"]
  }
}
📘

Note

If the item is not in a dismissable state, for example because it was already dismissed, the call returns HTTP 409. A dismissed item still appears in unfiltered list calls, so keep your listActionItems calls filtered by statuses to exclude it from an actionable queue.
