# Step 4: Register a Sandbox Application

Register a sandbox application in the Solution Provider Portal.

To begin to explore the SP-API, register a sandbox application in the <<glossary:Solution Provider Portal>>. This sandbox application lets you start testing API calls immediately, even while your developer profile is under review.

## Prerequisites

Before you register your application, follow [Step 3: Create a Developer Profile](https://developer-docs.amazon.com/sp-api/docs/onboarding-step-3-create-a-developer-profile).

## Steps to register an application

In the following steps, you register an application for the sandbox environment.

1. Sign in to <span class="notranslate">[Solution Provider Portal](https://solutionproviderportal.amazon.com/)</span> with your Amazon credentials.
2. At the bottom left, choose <span class="notranslate">**Add new app client**.<br>The app registration form appears.
3. Enter the following application information:
   * Enter an application name.
   * For <span class="notranslate">**API type**</span>, select <span class="notranslate">**SP-API**</span>.
   * For <span class="notranslate">**Application type**</span>, select <span class="notranslate">**Sandbox**</span>.<br>Later, after your developer profile is approved and you test your application in the sandbox, you can create your application in the production environment.
4. Choose <span class="notranslate">**Save and exit**</span>.
